After surviving a massive rebuild recently, this little plane just keeps on giving. I finally decided to swap the wheels for floats and take the E-Flite UMX Turbo Timber out for its maiden flight off the water. Taking off and landing on water adds a completely different element to flying. The aircraft handles the extra weight and drag of the floats surprisingly well, and it still has plenty of power to get up off the surface using those classic Timber STOL capabilities. Taking the bikes off the tarmac and into the rough stuff for the first time. Juliet and I have decided to give gravel riding a crack, and we are heading out on our new Specialized Diverge bikes to see what the hype is all about. In this video, we tackle our very first proper gravel section. The carbon frame does a brilliant job of smoothing out the chatter, love the electronic shifting is a massive help when you are trying to hold your line on the rough patches. First time getting the E-flite Night Timber X Evolution up in the evening sky and wow this thing puts on an absolute light show. I’ve been waiting for a good night to give this a crack. The built-in LEDs are brilliant, making it incredibly easy to keep your orientation even when it's pitch black out. Flight details: The setup: Running a 4S battery for that extra bit of punch. Handling: It still has all that classic Timber STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) performance, and it handles just as well as it does during the day. The visuals: The internal lights illuminate the whole airframe perfectly—definitely looks a bit like a UFO from a distance. After two failed attempts that nearly made me give up on this plane entirely, the Dancing Wings Hobby Stick 14 is finally in the air - and it flies beautifully now it's set up following #BrianPhillipsRC build videos. In this video, I take you along for the successful maiden flight, and break down the two critical newbie mistakes I made during my first two setups so you can avoid making them yourself.
